Here is a link to the here are screenshots from the text which pretty much break down every single step for you for both synthetic and long division. Again, it is imperative that you know how to do synthetic division to move on in this chapter. You need to practice outside of this course in order to be successful. I'd say a minimum of 30 minutes a day, even just looking over the notes and working on the problem sets. It is evident how much time outside of class some of your spending on the material. You are about to fall very behind.

I have attached a copy of the exact same format of the quiz, but different questions. DO NOT take this quiz until you are sure that you understood the lesson (look over notes, try some problems). You want to be able to complete this in less than 30 minutes. Time yourself. Take note of this time. Write it down on your quiz tomorrow and see if you can beat it (accurately).

This course is all about shortcuts and being of the main objectives is to recognize patterns. I have said all along how having a strong basis is going to be good for this course. Notice today how we didn't even need to use synthetic division when we were able to factor the polynomial? For example, x^2-9 by x-3. We know it has to be x+3.

That will save you some time so that you can focus on the other concepts.

I hate to end on a sour note, but we are now in week 11 of the 18 week semester. If you are not passing the course by week 16, you will fail the course. You will not pass part B without passing part A.

Some data for you about the class:

The highest grade in the class is a 99.21% - Great job to that student!

The mean grade in the class is a 78.67% - I am pleased with this average. I can see that a lot of you are working hard. I appreciate your hard work. Keep it up!

The median grade in the class is a 81.53% - With the median being greater than the mean, there is more data to the right of the mean than to the left. So, there are more students with grades higher than 78.67%. This is awesome!!

The standard deviation is 15.8%. I can have one of my statistics students explain this for you tomorrow for bonus points :)

I know that there are online calculators that can solve a system of three variables for you. I'm fine with you using this to check your answers. If I catch you doing this, it is against the academic integrity policy at SET, and you will fail the assignment (or the entire course). It will be evident on an exam that you cheated. Don't do it.

Sorry for an additional post tonight but...

I had some amazing African food (Flavors of East Africa - you NEED to try it) while watching the sunset with a friend from high school who is visiting the city. She was complaining about her 9-5 and all I could do was brag about how happy I am at my job because my students rock.

I know said I wouldn't comment on problem sets, but I couldn't help it after that conversation. You guys deserve it. Even if you turned it in already, look it over.

I went to go look over the problem set to leave comments, but I realized that you can easily check your answers with desmos. For me, it is important to understand the relationship algebraically and graphically, so I find it beneficial to see the graph.

It's important that you use desmos as a tool. When I made the answer key, do you think I was using elimination to solve the system? Of course not, I graphed them on desmos and looked for their intersection. However, if needed, I can still rely on my algebra skills to solve it by hand. Don't use it to cheat. Come test time, you'll be paddling against the current. That's a system you can't solve (HA!) ;)

Make sure you are putting { } around your sets.

Division by 0 / negative square root are both undefined.

For Direct Variation, 10=3k . you need to solve for k, then input that value into y=kx

Everyone is saying that the point (3,4) is on their line (where you're given a slope and a line), which is impossible. How are you getting this? I can't quite figure it out. Check your work!

0 / 2 is zero. 0 / anything (except for 0) is 0. So for that last equation, you can leave out the 0x.
